'90S ALTERNATIVE-POP HITMAKERS GIN BLOSSOMS VISIT JOHN ASCUAGA'S NUGGET

Sparks/Reno, Nev. – The Gin Blossoms delivered a solid stream of catchy, radio-friendly, guitar- and vocal-driven pop tunes during the 1990’s. Fueled by mega-hits including “Hey Jealousy,” “Found Out About You,” and “Till I Hear It From You,” the band completed the classic cross-over from college-circuit heroes to multi-platinum album sellers. See the Gin Blossoms, one night only, Friday, April 18, in the Celebrity Showroom at John Ascuaga’s Nugget.

The band’s hometown Tempe, Arizona-following grew quickly as the Blossoms earned a great reputation as a live act. Readers of the Phoenix New Times chose them as the city’s best rock band, qualifying them to play at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, in March of 1989. Later that year, College Music Journal dubbed them the best unsigned band in the country, and invited them to play MTV’s New Music Awards in New York City.

Major-label interest quickly followed. Their initial releases on A&M Records included Up and Crumbling (1991) and multi-platinum selling New Miserable Experience (1992). NME struggled to find its place in the market but refused to go away. Nine months after the initial release, "Hey Jealousy" became a legitimate Top-10 hit. Four more singles followed it: "Mrs. Rita", "Found Out About You", "Allison Road" and "Until I Fall Away". By the time the dust settled, 'New Miserable Experience' had sold nearly 3 million copies in the U.S. and the Gin Blossoms were a band to be reckoned with.

Congratulations … I’m Sorry (1996), was the Blossoms’ final original album of the decade (and for A&M). It did, however, yield two more hits: "Follow You Down", which spent ten weeks in the top 10, and "As Long As It Matters", which earned the group a Grammy nomination for "Best Performance by a Duo or Group." The album debuted in Billboard's Top Ten and a year of touring helped push the record past 1,500,000 units sold. The group took a lengthy hiatus before returning with Dusted (2002) and Major Lodge Victory (August 2006).

The Gin Blossoms perform one night only, Friday, April 18, in the Celebrity Showroom at 8 p.m. Tickets are just $32 and are available by calling (800) 648-1177 or (775) 356-3300 or by visiting janugget.com. Dinner and show packages are available. “Do The Nugget Tonight!”
