Sparks/Reno, Nev. – Hip-hop, rock, funk and soul - Tower of Power brings it. The San Francisco Bay Area-based band sets up shop March 15 for one cool night in the Celebrity Showroom at John Ascuaga's Nugget.

Tower of Power's eclectic, horn-driven roots began in the early '70s as a group of soul devotees called the Motown’s, instigated by a young transplant from Detroit named Emilio Castillo. The group has remained active throughout the years, bolstered by a scorching live sound and performance. Personnel changes have been part of the history and evolution of the band; at least 60 musicians have performed, toured, and/or recorded with the band through the years. As the psychedelic '60s gave way to the underground sounds of the '70s, the band picked up the nucleus that remains as the core of the group today.

Tower of Power rapidly ascended the ranks of music stardom, sharing bills along the way with Creedence Clearwater Revival, Sly and the Family Stone and Santana. By the time the band launched its debut album, East Bay Grease in 1970, they had honed their sound during years of playing bars and clubs. Hits like "You're Still a Young Man," “What is Hip?” and "So Very Hard to Go" solidified Tower of Power's place.
