The City of Sparks will ring in the holiday season on December 6 - December 7 with a Truckee Meadows tradition – the Sparks Hometowne Christmas event. The Victorian Square celebration is known for its focus on family.
The festivities get under way at 6:30 p.m. on December 6 with the lighting of a 50 ft. tree located in front of Saint Mary's Amphitheater on Victorian Avenue. There will be free hot chocolate and cookies for those in attendance. The tree lighting ceremony will conclude at 7 p.m.
The celebration will continue on December 7 with the Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. More than 95 entries ranging from floats and marching bands to dancing horses, car clubs, and youth groups are a part of the parade each year which travels along the west bound lane of Victorian Avenue from Pyramid Way to 14th Street.
In an effort to help those that require assistance, a seating area for people with disabilities is provided along the parade route on the northeast corner of 10th & Victorian.
Santa will be on hand to greet and visit with children in the Glendale Schoolhouse from noon to 2 p.m. and after the parade from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Children who visit with Santa are asked to bring either a $1 donation or a can of food. Evelyn Mount's Community Outreach annual canned food drive will also take place during the event. Details
